Benjamin Messer has dedicated his legal career to helping immigrants. Since his first year of law school, he has been a devoted volunteer and advocate for immigrant communities.

Mr. Messer joined Wilkes Legal in 2021 after more than five years practicing immigration law in the Washington, DC area. At his prior firms, Mr. Messer focused on removal defense before the immigration courts, appeals, representation of unaccompanied minors, and immigration-related federal litigation. His federal court work includes obtaining decisions after unreasonable government delays, overturning incorrect decisions by USCIS, and securing his clients’ release from unlawful detention. He has won asylum, permanent residence, citizenship, waivers, and many other benefits for his clients from all parts of the globe. In 2018, he was promoted to Senior Attorney in recognition of his hard work and success on behalf of his clients.

Before becoming an attorney, Mr. Messer volunteered as a translator and interpreter for other attorneys and non-profit organizations representing immigrants. He has continued his service to community organizations since becoming an attorney by providing free legal advice and presentations on numerous aspects immigration law to both immigrants and volunteers.

Mr. Messer is a graduate of the University of Baltimore School of Law and Iowa State University. He is licensed to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia, the United States District Courts for Maryland and the District of Columbia, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. He is fluent in English and Spanish.
